Congratulations to Sister Marita Carmel McCarthy, a well-deserving recipient of the Jimmy Coin Award in recognition of the qualities of “kindness, compassion, sacrifice, dedication, and respect that she demonstrates toward all” with whom she comes in contact as the Principal of Villa Maria Academy High School. Sister received this award in conjunction with the annual May celebration in honor of Our Lady. The VMA faculty and student body affirmed Sister Carmel as the recipient of the award with a standing ovation. Thank you, Carmel, for all you are and all you do!

Sister Alice Hess from Archbishop Ryan High School was selected as the State Teacher of the Year by the Air Force Association of Pennsylvania. Sister will be honored at the Air Force State Convention in Harrisburg in August. You certainly “soar” in our eyes too. Congratulations, Alice!

Congratulations to Sister Peggy McDonald for the recent publication of a two-part article entitled “There’s Something About Mary: Teacher, Model, and Guide” in the May/June and July/August editions of the Dominican publication, Spirituality. Once again, we rejoice in Peggy’s generous sharing of the fruits of her study and contemplation.

Congratulations to Sister Suzanne Mayer on the publication of her article “Freud, Francis and the Wolf: Projection in Two Lupine Narratives” in the AFCU Journal: A Franciscan Perspective on Higher Education. As always, we rejoice in Suzanne’s scholarly, creative, and generous sharing of her gifts.

Congratulations to Sister Helen David Brancato for participating in an exhibit entitled “Good Friday—The Sufferings of Christ in Contemporary Art” at Saint Louis University’s Museum of Contemporary Religious Art from February 2 to April 25, 2010. Her featured work “Crucifixion—Haiti” is on display there and this work also appeared on the cover of the March 1 issue of America. We praise God that Helen’s gifts are so appreciated and we thank her specially for directing us to see the face of God in the faces of those who suffer and who need our compassion.
