IHM Immaculata Congregation Archives
The Father Gillet Center for Congregation History contains records
that tell the story of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart
of Mary since the founding in1845 in Monroe, Michigan to the present
time. Here are stored a cumulative history of people and events
and the materials that document the Congregation’s religious
and legal obligations and business transactions. They reflect not
only the internal development of our Congregation but also the conduct
of our affairs as a corporation. Accounts of the works, policies,
decisions, procedures, and other activities that provide information
about the Congregation, its members and its works can be found here.
LOCATION
The Reading Room and Record Room of the IHM Congregation Archives
are located on the second floor south of the Generalate Building.
The entry is accessed through the rear corridor of the chapel arcade.
The South American archives collection and display are directly behind
the chapel on the first floor.

Formally established in 1971 under Sister Rose Bernard Bernard,
IHM, and subsequently managed by Sister Genevieve Mary Simons, The
Center for Congregation History (“the Archives”) is
more than a place for storage but a source of information. The many
benefits to users include the following:
· IHM Administrators - for long range planning and deve1opment;
· IHM Sisters - for information about the Congregation and
the ministries of the past;
· Historians - tracing connections among people, events,
places and movements;
· Parishioners - exp1oring the history of their parishes
and their IHM schools;
· Genealogists - seeking family connections.
